Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Who? Wayne D. Kramer, author of the Heroes of Time YA/epic fantasy series and Penny Pangolin children’s book series. Who are you and where did you come from? I’m from the southern Indiana countryside. I’ve enjoyed writing since an early age and entered multiple school contests, such as Young Authors, in elementary and middle school. As I grew, I developed an ambitious, entrepreneurial spirit that often manifested alongside creative desires. One such ambitious endeavor was the Chrono Trigger Novel Project, an epic-fantasy novelization of the video game Chrono Trigger, which I always wanted to get the rights to publish. To this day, I still have the website ChronoTrigger.com and would still love to bring the project to fruition. Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your latest book and the general plot? My latest novel is Heroes of Time Legends: The Healer, which is a prequel volume. Fulgar Geth is an individual blessed with powers of healing and magnetism but cursed with bad luck. Follow the Healer’s path through trials of loss, love, self-discovery, and faith as he journeys between Shadow and Light. Where did you come up with the idea? As a prequel volume, this novel was written to further explore the backstory of a fan-favorite character from a previous novel, Murdoch’s Choice. Which of your characters do you like the most and why? My favorite characters are probably ones from a novel not yet published. Otherwise, I’ll go with Captain Zale “the Gale” Murdoch. Which one do you hate the most and why? Vidimir Tefu, one of the villainous characters, because he’s an oily scumbag. You’re stranded on an island, and you are granted three things; An IPod with only three songs loaded, what is it? A book with the last chapter missing, what is it and who wrote it? And a lunchbox with a sandwich and a full thermos, yummy, what kind of sandwich and drink would you appreciate? For the iPod, I Will Survive seems appropriate for a little motivation…and then perhaps I’m Still Here by John Rzeznik and Counting Stars by OneRepublic. A book with last chapter missing would be 1984 by George Orwell, so that I might imagine a much happier ending. My sandwich could be a turkey with peppercorn ranch sub with sweet tea, because unsweet tea is an abomination before the Lord. What is the biggest mistake you have made in your life? Not writing or publishing mistake – any mistake. Even if it happened in 3rd grade, I wanna know about it. Heck, man, I dunno—I don’t really dwell on mistakes. My wife and I sometimes say we wish we’d have gotten married sooner, so there’s one that’s pretty safe. What would you do for a Klondike bar? I’ve actually never had one, so can’t say I’d do much. For an Almond Joy, though…don’t get in my way. I climb a coconut tree and watch fate unfold, because Zale and Vidimir are about to fight it out. Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your latest book and the general plot? My latest book is Law Unto Herself: Scream Queen. It’s the second book of my Law Unto Herself Urban Fantasy Series. It’s kind of a prequel in the fact that it takes place in the 1980’s and showcases my love for 80’s horror movies. Where did you come up with the idea? Years ago, I kept having this nightmare that involved a movie theater with white and black checkered floors and freakish monsters. To combat that nightmare, I’d figure that I’d sic my vampire vigilante heroine on it. Which of your characters do you like the most and why? Forest – She’s the main character, a vampire vigilante. She’s too good for her own good, and she’s an eternal teenager with issues and neurosis. She’s also from Scotland, so her dialogue is always fun to write. Which one do you hate the most and why? The Roman Bastard – He’s the one who turned Forest into a vampire and gave her a good deal of the issues she has. You’re stranded on an island, and you are granted three things; An IPod with only three songs loaded, what is it? “Parabola” by Tool “Leather Teeth” by Carpenter Brut “Gone Away” by the Offspring A book with the last chapter missing, what is it and who wrote it? Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and another author who shall not be named. And a lunchbox with a sandwich and a full thermos, yummy, what kind of sandwich and drink would you appreciate? My drink of choice would be a good ginger ale! Something in a green glass bottle would probably be best. As for the Sandwich – roasted chicken with mayonnaise and swiss cheese on white bread. What is the biggest mistake you have made in your life? Not writing or publishing mistake – any mistake. Even if it happened in 3rd grade, I wanna know about it. When I was eleven, when washing my dad’s truck I sort of sprayed the entire dashboard with the hose. I also jumped off a cliff into a raging river when I was three. What would you do for a Klondike bar? I’m allergic to chocolate, so absolutely nothing! Hide behind Forest and let her deal with her issues for once by beating the Roman Bastard’s face in. Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Who? Who are you and where did you come from? Michelle Bennington. I was born and raised in central Kentucky and still live in the area. Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your latest book and the general plot? The last published book is Widow’s Fire the second book in my historical mystery Widows & Shadows series. It’s like Jane Austen meets Agatha Christie. In general, the series is about a widow in late Georgian England who becomes entangled in solving mysteries when a lord dies in her parlor in Widow’s Blush. The second book, Widow’s Fire, is about a missing opal, murder, and political intrigue with just a hint of romance. The third book, Widow’s Peak, releases in October 2025. However, I have two more books coming out before the end of the year: Killer Cache which is second in my Hazardous Hoarding series, which is about a hoarder who lives with her husband’s ghost and solves crimes in a small town in Kentucky. This book releases December 2025. Then the third and final book in my Small Batch mystery series, Unbridled Spirits, was published earlier in 2025. The series, which includes Devil’s Kiss and Mermaid Cove, is set in the bourbon industry in Kentucky and is about a woman down on her luck who lands a job at a distillery and is drawn into solving crimes. Where did you come up with the idea? Widows & Shadows: Not sure. I love the late Georgian Era. The idea blossomed out of research I was doing in that era for another book. Hazardous Hoarding: I love the TV show Hoarders and I thought what if someone found a body under that pile of stuff. The characters sprang to mind and took over. The original book was meant to be darker, but to fit in with cozies, I needed to make it lighter. This series was also an experiment where I tried to blend Southern Gothic with cozy. It was a lot of fun. Small Batch: I got the idea while on a ghost tour at Buffalo Trace Distillery. At night on the distillery grounds, there were some creepy corners, so my imagination took off. Again, I thought, what if a body was found on this tour? Which of your characters do you like the most and why? Hazardous Hoarding: I love the relationship between Henny Wiley and her sister Oda Dean. They love each other but they bicker all the time. Small Batch Series: I love the wise and sassy grandmother, Prim. She keeps everyone in line. Widows & Shadows: Though she plays less of a role as the series progresses, I like Lady Catherine Adair. She’s spirited and fun, but sharp. She knows everyone’s secrets. Which one do you hate the most and why? I can’t say I hate any of my characters. I do dislike some though. Small Batch series: I dislike Cam’s fiancée, Jacie. She’s shallow. Hazardous Hoarding: I dislike one of the secondary characters Prue. She’s based on someone I knew in my youth. Widows & Shadows: I dislike Lady Braxton. She’s loud, bossy, and abrasive. She’s based on someone I actually know. You’re stranded on an island, and you are granted three things: Aside from all practical survival and rescue items, I would want coffee, books, and chocolate. An IPod with only three songs loaded, what songs are they? What an unfair question! LOL. There are so many songs I would want and I love such a wide variety of music. But if I have to narrow it down I think I would go with: Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, the hymn Amazing Grace, and Foggy Mountain Breakdown by Flatt & Scruggs. A book with the last chapter missing, what is it and who wrote it? I’m not sure how to answer this. Does this mean a book where I didn’t like the ending and I would rewrite it? If so, I didn’t like the end to Horse by Geraldine Brooks. And a lunchbox with a sandwich and a full thermos, yummy, what kind of sandwich and drink would you appreciate? Cheeseburger and iced tea. What is the biggest mistake you have made in your life? Not writing or publishing mistake – any mistake. Even if it happened in 3rd grade, I wanna know about it. I’ve made so many I’m not sure how I could possibly choose. LOL. I made an F in a college PhysEd because it was a class about golf, in the summer, that I took with my best friend. She and I spent the time speeding around the golf course in the golf cart and skipping class. What would you do for a Klondike bar? 10 burpees. I’m assuming Lady Adair shows up with Lady Braxton. Lady Adair and I will sit and play cards and gossip. When Lady Braxton shows up trying to boss us around, I’ll tell her to sit down and hush. If she refuses, I’ll shove her into the ocean. Then Lady Adair and I will pack up our cards and move to another part of the island. Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your latest book and the general plot? All Dead Park stories are shared anonymously online. Some on chat boards, some on the dark web. Some in the comments section under bootlegged clips from Peppa Pig. Where did you come up with the idea? I heard about this strange little town with a shopping mall that includes a video arcade and a movie rental outlet. They still rent VHS, Beta, even Laserdisc. I did some shopping, and wandered over to the frozen yogurt stand, where some kid told me the Mothman comes in any time they have Honey as a featured flavor. I bet you would have been intrigued too. Which of your characters do you like the most and why? I always found it charming that a sentient computer decided to use its powers to pull pranks instead of dominating the world. The Hepatitis scare in particular was hilarious. Which one do you hate the most and why? Mr. Puppet. That guys gave me nightmares. My latest book is CHANDA’S LEGACY, the third book in my series about “galactic diplomat” Chanda Kasmira. Here’s part of the blurb: “Chanda must protect the far-flung Station of the Lost, as an alien starship’s arrival threatens its very existence!” Where did you come up with the idea? It followed from the previous books about the character, CHANDA’S AWAKENING and CHANDA’S HOMECOMNG. Which of your characters do you like the most and why? I believe I like Chanda the best, because she’s growing with each book, and has a large cast of characters to help draw stories from. Which one do you hate the most and why? Kentuckiana Authors Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Who? Elizabeth Donald Who are you and where did you come from? I am a writer, a journalist and a college professor. I’m originally from California, grew up in New England, went to college in the South and live on the Illinois side of St. Louis. So… I’m American. Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your latest book and the general plot? The latest is Blackfire Rising, a compendium of novels, novellas and short stories I’ve written over several years about a paramilitary group fighting supernatural threats under contract to the U.S. government while they try to stop a zombie uprising. Where did you come up with the idea? I was originally contracted to write about a traditional monster written in a nontraditional way, and I drew zombies. I wanted to approach the subgenre without relying on gross-outs or gore, which have generally been key components of zombie fiction. The original project never happened, but I really enjoyed writing my team of critter-fighters and somehow it turned into a series. When Falstaff Books picked it up, we decided to put all the stories in one book before moving forward with the series. Which of your characters do you like the most and why? Sara Harvey is the team leader and a Marine. She is delightfully fun to write and probably the most popular character I have ever written in my 20 years as an author. She is also named after a dear friend, who is also an author and has been a terrific sport about her namesake’s shenanigans. Which one do you hate the most and why? I don’t hate any of my characters! Even the supposed “bad guys” are fun to write, and the supernatural critters let me play with my love of folklore, mythology and ghost stories. The only thing I hate is boredom, and if something is boring, it’s not making it through edits. You’re stranded on an island, and you are granted three things; An IPod with only three songs loaded, what songs are they? Probably three symphonies, preferably Mozart or Vivaldi. I have eclectic taste in music and three songs would be repetitious beyond sanity. At least with classical music, I have something to occupy my mind on the lower levels while I think. I usually have classical or other non-verbal music playing when I write, too. A book with the last chapter missing, what is it and who wrote it? Probably IT by Stephen King, which is my favorite novel. I know how it ends, and it’s so freaking long that I could read it over and over without getting too bored. And a lunchbox with a sandwich and a full thermos, yummy, what kind of sandwich and drink would you appreciate? A tuna sandwich sounds lovely. As for the thermos: Coffee! Is there coffee on the island? If not, I’m swimming for it. What is the biggest mistake you have made in your life? Not writing or publishing mistake – any mistake. When you have a job that pays as little as writing, journalism or teaching, you’ll have them around your neck for the rest of your life. Education is worth it, every time. But take one less class, stretch out the grants and scholarships, and try to avoid signing on the dotted line for a lifetime debt. What would you do for a Klondike bar? Pay for it. Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Who? Who are you and where did you come from? I’m Linda Ellen Bullock, and my pen name is Linda Ellen. I was born and raised in Louisville, never lived anywhere else, just different neighborhoods around town, lol. Early years mostly in Crescent Hill. Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your latest book and the general plot? My latest release (#12) is entitled “New Love at Honey Landing”. It’s book 2 of my Maple Heights series where I used the history of the Riverside, Farnsley Moreman house in Valley Station as my inspiration. The first book was circa 1870 and it was a love story twist on the mail order bride theme. Book 2, New Love, is also a romance. It takes place modern day, well actually 2019, lol, and the once beautiful house is in bad shape. A Ft. Knox soldier with a 5-year-old daughter inherits it and the land, and decides to fix it up. He enlists the help of his best friend and army buddy, Levi, an old friend from his school days in Louisville, named Ruby, and Angelica, a widow (with a 6-year-old boy) from Cincinnati who answered his ad. The plot is the tale of their adventures as they fall in love while refurbishing the historic house. Lots of local landmarks mentioned. Where did you come up with the idea? After I wrote Sweet Love (Book 1), fans were clamoring for more, which is great, but I had exhausted my ideas for the story in that genre. So, I toyed with the idea of having the sequel actually be contemporary instead of historical, to differ from my other series. Once I decided to do that, it took quite a bit of thought and planning to come up with who the new characters would be and how to craft their story to mirror the historical characters in many ways. Which of your characters do you like the most and why? I think I like Quinn, my MMC. He’s handsome, honest, hardworking, loyal, sweet, etc., etc. Your average hero—but he does have some issues that he has to work through during the story, lol. Which one do you hate the most and why? Hmm, well I guess my New Love hero Quinn’s ex-wife, as she’s based on someone from my past, lol. You’re stranded on an island, and you are granted three things; An IPod with only three songs loaded, what is it? “Seven Bridges Road” by The Eagles – for the amazing acapella harmony. “Every Praise” by Hezekiah Walker – I can listen to it over and over and it brings me into the presence of Jesus every time, love that song! “All my Loving” by The Beatles – my all-time fav of theirs (although it’s hard to pick just one lol). Alternate (because sheesh, only three songs???) would be “Don’t” by Elvis – his palpable torture as he sings out his unrequited passion for the unnamed woman who holds his heart gets me every time. Sigh. Simply one of his best and most brilliant. A book with the last chapter missing, what is it and who wrote it? The Bible – the most important book in the world, written by direct inspiration from God. I’m Sara Goodwin, I’m a writer, and a person writing a dissertation, and a full-time university employee, and a part time rare books library archival researcher, and a part time jewelry maker and faire/convention vendor. … and so Javert, you see it’s true, this man bears no more guilt than youuuu! Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your book and the general plot? Where did you come up with the idea? - I have two books. The first one is called, “Evergreen: A Dryad’s Tale and Other Short Stories.” It’s a book of original fairytales. Four short stories, one for each season, and the title story, Evergreen, is novella length and is about a dryad named Evergreen and the human who plays his guitar under her tree. The fairytales book has been used twice so far in an IU fairytales class. I was on a syllabus! - The second book is my first novel. It is part one of the Raise the Atalanta series, and is called From the Wreckage. The basic description: Steampunk inspired, found family, treasure hunting, good guys against bad guys but things get a little gray, definitely some characters who aren’t exactly straight, airships, legends, airplanes, boats and more! Which of your characters do you like the most and why? - Oh, man. Come on! How is this fair? Okay, my fave is Danae Chevalier and she’s introduced in book one, From the Wreckage. My girl Danae is a conflicted mess and she’s also a total badass. No spoilers. Come love her with me. Which one do you hate the most and why? - I don’t hate any of them. My major villain, and I’m not spoilering this with the name, is a huge jerk and I hate him but I’m also proud that I made him. I’m his mama and he’s my trashcan son. You’re stranded on an island, and you are granted three things; An IPod with only three songs loaded, what is it? - Warrior of the Mind from Epic the Musical. I can’t get enough. I have an actual problem. - Bohemian Rhapsody because yes. - The 1812 Overture because I love me some Tchaikovsky and I never want to forget in all of my time imprisoned on an island like Odysseus in the Odyssey on Calypso’s island (I told you the Epic the Musical brainrot has a hold on me!) that there was no normal percussion badass enough to emulate the cannon effects that were required so they just used actual cannons. A book with the last chapter missing, what is it and who wrote it? - You mean, something I don’t want to know the end of or want to decide that ending didn’t happen and it stops in the happy place? Like how I watch the movie Moulin Rouge and stop before the bad things happened? I don’t know. Pretty much any book that ends rough, I guess. And a lunchbox with a sandwich and a full thermos, yummy, what kind of sandwich and drink would you appreciate? - My ideal lunchbox contains a thermos of creamy mac and cheese, peanut butter crackers, sliced kiwi fruit, and a little container of pickles. What is the biggest mistake you have made in your life? Not writing or publishing mistake – any mistake. Even if it happened in 3rd grade, I wanna know about it. - Ok. Wow. Would you like a tale of accidental cannibalism? Yes? So, I was like 22 or so, visiting my great aunt on vacation in California, and she took me to Bodega Bay. Super cool place. Like many old ladies, she got her hair did once a week whether it needed it or not, and she did not want to walk out onto the dock with me in the wind but she was like, “Go on, have fun!” I went on. Tried to have fun. The wind was nuts. A family was out on the dock (this dock is looooong, by the way) and they were feeding something in the water. I’m like, “Oh, yay! Wildlife! Let’s have a look! Am in in for sea lions? Dolphins? Weird fish? I’m so in!” So, I approach. But then, I realize … they are dumping grandma’s ashes and everybody’s having a scoop with their fingers and tossing it in the water. Holy shit. I am intruding on a private moment and I need to GTFO of here, stat! My jaw drops in the realization that these poor people are just trying to release grandma’s earthly form into the ocean, but … wind. The wind blows somebody else’s grandma ash into my open mouth. It’s gritty and awful and I want to join grandma’s grit in the ocean. I look back and my great aunt is waving frantically and calling to me. She had realized what was happening and was trying to call me back, but it was too windy to hear her. She saw what happened. She saw it go in. I scurry back to the car, grossed out and panicking and she’s like, “Get in. We’ve got to get you to Popeye’s for a biscuit and a Coke!” So, the official folk remedy for accidental cannibalism is a biscuit and a Coke from Popeye’s. You’re welcome. Glad to become the face of Popeye’s should they choose to embrace their status as official anti-venin for accidentally consumed somebody else’s grandma ash. What would you do for a Klondike bar? - After the afore mentioned story, I would NOT commit accidental cannibalism. Or purposeful. I’d have given just about anything for a Klondike bar to erase the nasty from my mouth. You’re still stranded on that island and two people show up, the character you love the most, and the one you hate the most, and they both know what you said about them. What do you do? - Oooh, my own fictional characters? I’d tell Danae to get therapy and that killing the transgressors will not fix her brain. I wanna slide right off the furniture because I’m slick like a seal. Planet: The only one I’ve been to is Earth, but … of our own solar system, I’d like to learn more about Neptune. Such a weird little loner of a planet. What are you up to, my little fellow? Fictional planets? Not Tattooine. Sand gets everywhere. Hmm, let’s have … Naboo? How about … my memories of the travel I’ve done? I’ve been to Italy, Ireland, England, Northern Ireland, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas. My travel memories are a big deal to me. Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Who? Who are you and where did you come from? Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your latest book and the general plot? Growing up in the middle of nowhere Kentucky, though it felt like the center of the universe, shaped my childhood surrounded by family and the great outdoors. Teaching became my calling and eventually led to a career that culminated in serving as a principal. Creating, designing, and writing have always been passions of mine. As a child, I wrote plays for my siblings to perform for our parents. Retirement finally provided the opportunity to pursue that lifelong dream of becoming a writer. I first wrote children’s books but have moved on to adult books. My latest book is Love Ghosted. Of course, the main character was ghosted. Literally. She assists in the development of a bourbon recipe that people would die for. Figuratively! Well, except her. She spent much of her ghost life trying to learn the identity of her killer. Where did you come up with the idea? Which of your characters do you like the most and why? Which one do you hate the most and why? Ghosts. Witches. Spells. Curses. Science fiction. Those are all topics I love to read mixed in low fantasy stories with tales of mystery, snaps of humor, and bits of love. Most of my books contain a fortune teller as a character. Love Cursed revolves around a 1929 bootlegger cast under a witch’s spell. He’s found in today’s world in a consignment shop purse. What’s in your purse? I’m not sure where my ideas come from. Maybe I’m under a witch’s spell, too! I like women characters who are strong and never give up. I guess the witch in Love Cursed would be my favorite and the woman who killed the person who became a ghost is my least favorite. Male characters are sexy but lovable. The characters I don’t like are just plain bitches. Whatever! You’re stranded on an island, and you are granted three things; An IPod with only three songs loaded, what is it? A book with the last chapter missing, what is it and who wrote it? And a lunchbox with a sandwich and a full thermos, yummy, what kind of sandwich and drink would you appreciate? Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Who? Who are you and where did you come from? I’m author Hallie Lee, born and raised in Louisiana—another reason I like the “ana” in Kentuckiana! After moving from Cajun Country to Santa Fe, New Mexico, we eventually landed in Nicholasville, Kentucky. I immediately fell in love with the striking green grass, the black horse fences around every curve, and the giant doggies, aka horses, with their soulful brown eyes, swishing tails, and long eyelashes. Writing wise, I hit my stride here in Bluegrass Land. In 2021, my first book, PAINT ME FEARLESS, launched the Shady Gully series. Think Steel Magnolias meets Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. My novels are full of relatable, ornery southerners struggling with modern day problems. Love, betrayal, challenging family dynamics, eating disorders, loneliness, and most of all—faith—are threaded throughout the series. I also write devotionals for All God’s Creatures, a book/magazine published by Guideposts. Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your latest book and the general plot? My last book was the fourth in the series. Here’s the tagline: When a megachurch pastor collapses on stage, rumors swirl—scandal, burnout, or something more sinister? Seeking refuge, he retreats to Shady Gully, Louisiana, where secrets unravel, faith is tested, and an unlikely alliance forms to fight a grave injustice. Where did you come up with the idea? The charismatic, popular pastor of Northlake Christian Church in Kentucky made his “Shady Gully” debut in book 1 of the series. Although it was only a “cameo” appearance, his kindness and sincerity proved pivotal. Everything about him—his self-effacing meek nature, his detailed sleeve of tattoos, his unshakeable faith—suggested there was something deeper to his truth. When he tells one of the main characters in book 1, “Sometimes when bad things happen in your life, no matter how faithful you are, you need a little help climbing out of the muck,” she wondered if he spoke from personal experience. Turns out he did, and The Shepherds is his story." Which of your characters do you like the most and why? I love them all, but I’m particularly fond of Lenny, the husband of one of my main characters. He’s solid, steady, and reminds me of my own husband. He’s also a little like my own father. And my brother. Okay, okay, before y’all think I’m weird, let’s just say he’s a combo of all the important men in my life. I’m also fond of Father Patrick, an Irish priest who finds himself smack day in the middle of cajun land. (Lots of opportunities for humor there!) And where would I be without my young characters? And my character’s pets? Dogs, cats, a donkey, and yes…even a python. Which one do you hate the most and why? That’s a great question! But since most of my villains eventually, begrudgingly, sometimes kicking and screaming, find their way to redemption, I probably shouldn’t answer. I was born and raised in Louisville, KY and now live on a small farm with my husband and son and several critters in Shepherdsville, KY. Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your latest book and the general plot? My debut novel is titled, Moonlight and Magnolias: A Vampire Novel. It’s about a woman who discovers her best friend’s family ties lead to a mysterious man. She soon finds herself intrigued by this mysterious and beautiful man and decides to uncover his secrets. She becomes entangled in a whirlwind of romance, secrets, and heart-pounding adventure. Where did you come up with the idea? I have always loved the vampire genre and wanted to create something of my own, where the vampires were not only beautiful but were also downright scary. I actually got the idea from a song by the band Lord Huron. There is a line in the song, Love Like Ghosts, that says “What ain’t living can never really die.” and I immediately thought of vampires. The rest of the song has great storytelling lyrics, and my thoughts just went to a tale about a vampire. I know that’s not what that song is about, at all, but here we are! Lol Which of your characters do you like the most and why? I just love Silas Quinn, the vampire in my story. He’s just so confident and cheeky. He’s comfortable in his own skin, for the most part, and he knows what he wants and is not afraid to get it. Which one do you hate the most and why? It has to be Kazamir. He’s one of the villains in my novel. He’s manipulative and uses those he’s supposed to love to better himself. While he is a master at escaping, he is also rather dumb when it comes to the obvious and it comes around to bite him (pardon the pun) in the end. Which of your characters do you like the most and why? I love Thomas. He is gentle and curious and loves animals. He is thrust into a terrible situation and never loses his integrity. Where did you come up with the idea? I read a lot of zombie books and survival stories and thought, “Heck, I could probably write a pretty good book too.” So, I did! Which of your characters do you like the most and why? The main character is Jack Emliy. He is not an idiot, but he is a slightly goofy regular guy. Not a green beret or navy seal. Just an average guy trying to keep his friends and family safe during an apocalypse. Which one do you hate the most and why? The “bad guys” in the book are relatable, so I don’t hate them. I am known as Renmeleon, short for The Renaissance Chameleon, and I am a nerd-of-all-trades. A polymath who works in several industries, I am primarily an illustrator and paper artist. I have been freelance for 40 years, full-time from a home-based studio for the past 24. I grew up in Winter Park, Florida and moved to Berea, Kentucky in 2016 with my husband and daughter. Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your latest book and the general plot? Stalemate, my first novel, is in revisions. It started as a script, my Masters thesis. I sat on it for far too long then decided to convert it to a novel. It is a paranormal thriller. Once it launches, I’ll go back and revise the script, then finish designing the game. “Every family has their secrets. This family houses everyone else’s. Join Michael as he returns home to find his childhood wasn’t as alone as he thought.” Where did you come up with the idea? I have always had an interest in the paranormal. I merged personal experiences and my favorite things then threw them all into a house. Which of your characters do you like the most and why? I would have to say my main protagonist’s father, Gustav. The book starts with his funeral. I am currently writing Gustav and his wife Amelia’s story as a short for an anthology. Gustav is loosely a cross between my grandfather and my husband. Gustav and Amelia’s story has some similarities to how my husband and I met 20 years ago. I also, in recent years, met a real life Gustav and Amelia in Covington. Which one do you hate the most and why? My main antagonist, Edson, is a serial killer. He’s vile. Pretty self-explanatory. My latest book is Dandelion Serenade, book #4 in the Dogwood Creek Matchmakers series. It’s a Christian small-town romance set in the Smoky Mountains and full of faith, second chances, and the kind of love that overcomes anything. It follows Lauren Juniper, a florist with a gift for helping people through flowers, and Nathan Brickner, her childhood best friend who returns home to replace the town’s historic bridge. There's tension, history, dandelion wish, and a group of matchmakers who take their job very seriously. Where did you come up with the idea? My dear friend, JoAnn Durgin, and I wanted to do a multiple author series. We met a couple of times and brainstormed, coming up with the town, the matchmakers and the basic premise of the series. Something that I love about this series is that we each came to the table with authors we wanted to invite. We prayed about who to include. You know when God is in something, because it just flows. We asked our top picks and every single one said yes. That’s unheard of with any project. We’ve felt from the start that each author is meant to be in the series and that God has a purpose for every single story. Which of your characters do you like the most and why? That’s like asking which pie is best at the church potluck — they’re all good for different reasons! But if I had to choose, it’d be Lauren. She’s resilient, kind, and she’s perfectly okay on her own. I come from a long line of fierce women. Lauren reminds me of several of them. Love is a bonus but she’s also going to be just fine if it’s only her. Plus, she’s not afraid to stand up for what she thinks is important. Which one do you hate the most and why? Hate is a pretty strong word. I do have a bone to pick with one of the characters from Meringue Melody. She’s inspired by the “sea witch” figure (minus the witch part) in my Little Mermaid–inspired Christian historical romance, and let’s just say she’s the type who’d steal your voice and blame it on your jewelry. I feel like I didn’t see other people hurting as a teen. In the last decade, I’ve chatted with friends form high school. One I love dearly. We went through school together from elementary to graduation day. I never realized she felt so utterly alone while we were in high school. It was a big school. I just didn’t know because I would have made sure she didn’t feel that way. At the same time, why didn’t I SEE it? I really wish I had. The other girl was in my friend group but told me she HATED high school because people were mean to her. Again, I had no idea. I would have stood up for her. Again, why didn’t I SEE it? I do believe I’ve grown over the years and am much more likely to notice if someone is struggling or feeling sad. No one should ever feel alone. What would you do for a Klondike bar? Not much. I don’t particularly like chocolate. Now, give me something sour, like a slice of lemon cake and there is no telling what I might do. First, I’d probably be happy to have people to help me build a boat to escape the island, even if one of them is giving me hateful looks and probably plotting a takeover of my coconut stash. I’m keeping Lauren by my side to pick flowers and talk about girl stuff while I send the sea “witch” off to scope out the other side of the island. Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Who? Who are you and where did you come from? Christian, wife, cat mom, author! I run on Christ, cats, books, and Death Wish coffee. There has never been a doubt as to my true calling. I began telling stories before I was old enough to write them. I began writing in grade school, where I won a variety of student awards. I wrote songs and played piano for a gospel quartet as a teenager and later played keyboards and performed backup vocals for a Christian rock band. I have worked as a journalist for a local newspaper and a feature writer for an area magazine; served my community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT first responder; and currently create a variety of media with my husband as a photographer and graphic designer. Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your book and the general plot? The Trinity Conspiracy is a series of four novels: Journey of The Dead, Trinity Road, The Path Home, and The Vale Bridge. (Look for The Vale Bridge in December 2025.) They are Christian historical family sagas arising from the shadows of science fiction. One Upon A Weekend is a collection of short stories ranging from psychological horror to coming-of-age to historical fiction. Paw Prints in The Manger is a Christmas short story available as an e-book. Where did you come up with the idea? One “inconsequential” detail in a Manhattan Project documentary on The History Channel left me with a raging list of What-Ifs. The main character of The Trinity Conspiracy immediately began sharing her story and filling in the gaps left unexplained by accounts of that moment in our country’s history. Paw Prints in The Manger combines the Biblical account of Jesus’ birth with the legend of the distinctive “M” on the tabby cat’s forehead. Which of your characters do you like the most and why? So far, my favorite character is Sarah Davenport, the main character of The Trinity Conspiracy. She faces Journey of The Dead as an innocent sixteen-year-old in 1941. Her heart stays beautiful and real throughout the decades as she matures into the family matriarch through the final chapters of The Path Home. Sarah’s father, Ray Davenport, is based on my neighbor, who shared his experiences as an Amtrac mechanic in the Russell Islands during World War II. Ray faces a number of personal demons throughout the series, overcoming some and learning to coexist with others. I admire the man he became throughout the story. Which one do you hate the most and why? Josten Maslow held that position through the first three Trinity Conspiracy novels. He continually stunned me with his cruelty and utter lack of conscience. The final book in the series, The Vale Bridge, introduces Kosta Kaseko, who takes evil to a whole new level – at times, his actions horrified even me! The link between Josten Maslow and Kosta Kaseko creates a disturbing alliance-gone-wrong that provokes yet another uncomfortable “what if.” You’re stranded on an island, and you are granted three things; An IPod with only three songs loaded, what is it? I listen to many different genres of music, depending on my mood. Today I would choose The Great Adventure by Steven Curtis Chapman; Gracie’s Theme by Paul Cardall; and Be Thou My Vision by BYU Noteworthy. A book with the last chapter missing, what is it and who wrote it? Limited to only one book, I would choose the Bible. It’s okay if the last chapter is missing. Who are you and where did you come from? Hmmm – a man of mystery, but those who know me call me Mick Williams. Originally, I came from a small town in England called Stoke-on-Trent, but I’ve been a Louisville native, on and off, for almost eighteen years. I do still ‘talk funny’ though. Obviously, you’re a writer, what is the name of your book and the general plot? I’ve written a few, but my latest series starts with a book called Mission Black. A Marine, Connor Black, accidentally shoots the princess of a powerful Royal Family. A shady organization covers up the mistake (and prevents another war) on the condition that he owes them. A decade later they come calling – he needs to assassinate the head of a drug cartel in New York. His only issue is that on leaving the service, to atone for what he considered too much violence, he took the vows to become a priest. Can he take the life of one to avoid the death of thousands? You’d have to read the Father Black series to find out! Where did you come up with the idea? I’ve always liked conflicted characters and wondered what would happen if a priest took confession and heard something he knew was dangerous to others…but only he could handle it. The story snowballed from there. Which of your characters do you like the most and why? Wow, that’s like saying pick your favorite child! I honestly couldn’t pick one. I love my Old Farts Club group – they’re a bit like the A Team, but for a new generation. Obviously, I love Father Black, and I’m also fond of Katy King, the main character in my latest book, Collateral Damage. But, at a push (and it is a push!), the Father Black series has a character named Emmy who is ruthless, seductive, and possesses a wicked sense of humor. She wants Father Black and knows she can’t have him, but that doesn’t stop her from trying! Which one do you hate the most and why? Hope, from Hope’s Game. Manipulative, conniving, very clever, and brutally evil. You’re stranded on an island, and you are granted three things; An IPod with only three songs loaded, what is it? 1. Genesis – Supper’s Ready… it’s twenty-three minutes long, so I’d get my money’s worth! 2. Barenaked Ladies – One Week… I used to sing it on karaoke in England and could never do it without speed reading the words. Now, I’d have time to learn them properly. 3. Lionel Richie – All Night Long… this island has a beach, right? Party song! A book with the last chapter missing, what is it and who wrote it? Wow, that’s a tough one. I’ll go for 11/22/63 by Stephen King. It’s over 800 pages long and I already know how it ends… not that I wanted it to.
